What made you want to work for BBBS?
As a college instructor, I was fortunate to support students in building a strong academic foundation as they pursued their passions and future careers. I’ve long admired the work BBBS does in the community, and I’m grateful to be part of a program like MentorU that allows me to continue fostering academic success in young people while also growing and learning beside them in a community-focused setting.
What has been your favorite part of BBBS so far?
My favorite part of BBBS has been getting to know my team, who truly lead with care and compassion.
What do you enjoy in your free time?
Mostly, my days revolve around my partner, Adam, and our chubby rescue cat, Orwell, who are my favorite people to spend time with. I also have a monthly supper club with my friends Abby and Lindsey, which is approaching it's 3rd year of existence! I spend as much time as I can with my nose in a book, especially ones that cover topics in philosophy or critical theory, but I also enjoy fiction by authors like Philip Roth, Sally Rooney, Joyce Carol Oates, Kazuo Ishiguro, and more. I also like to spend time doing crafty things like paint-by-numbers, macrame, and knitting. Most recently, my partner and I moved into a new home and inherited a compost bin, so I've really been enjoying making plans for my future worms!

I joined Big Brothers Big sisters to help youth see their potential, meet them where they're at, and be a support system for them when they might not know they need it.
What has been your favorite part of BBBS so far?
I love connecting with potential volunteers. Talking with them about the importance of mentorship and how they can be a pivotal part in a young person's life changing their life for the better. Seeing their faces light up when they realize they can be the person their younger self needed and be there for other young people.
What do you enjoy in your free time?
In my free time I love going to see movies at the theater, but I do enjoy staying at home and having movie nights with friends with themed snacks and drinks. Aside from being a movie buff I also enjoy reading and playing board games.

Position: Bilingual Match Support Specialist
What made you want to work for BBBS?
My interest in BBBS began when I saw how empowering the mentorship program though my mom and her little sister. Seeing the impact of a stable and caring adult figure can be in the lives of Nebraska's youth was inspiring. Supporting our communities motivated me to join BBBS program and become part of the cause myself; by fostering long-lasting relationships that brings positive impacts to youth, their families, and the midlands community at large.
What has been your favorite part of BBBS so far?
The work environment at BBBS is welcoming and supportive to anyone who walks through the door. Whether you're a staff member, a volunteer, a parent/guardian, or someone new to the program, you're treated like part of the community. The BBBS community has welcomed me and provided the network and support necessary to build and maintain positive relationships with my matches.
What do you enjoy in your free time?
Outside of work, I love solo traveling and visiting several countries. I'm also passionate about reading, journaling, and acting in community theatre. When I’m not exploring a new story or performing, you’ll probably find me at a cozy coffeeshop, spending time with my dog, diving into a video game, or practicing my French. I'm always looking for new experiences and ways to keep learning and growing.
