Meet MentorU Student Jazmin

Jazmin, a senior in our MentorU program, is preparing to graduate high school and pursue a degree in Mathematics at Peru State College. She’s driven by a deep love for math and a desire to prove to herself—and others—that math is interesting and worth sticking with.

Jazmin is one of eight recipients in our program to receive a BBBSA Youth Equity and Empowerment Scholarship—with support from the Deloitte Foundation. This opportunity is helping our mentees take the next step in their lives with less financial stress while celebrating all they've accomplished.

Matched with her mentor Jen for more than two years, Jazmin describes their relationship as one of deep understanding and support. Jen recognizes the challenges Jazmin faces with anxiety and never pushes her to participate in high-energy events. Instead, she respects her boundaries and offers a calm, caring presence.

“She has taught me how to be more thoughtful,” Jazmin shared, “and how it feels to truly care for another person.”

Jazmin is a standout student, involved in school band, choir, speech, drama, robotics, softball and more. Outside of school, she volunteers at her church and mentors middle school robotics students—three of the teams she supports are headed to a national competition.
