Meet Big Brother Siphamandla "PS"
How long have you been a volunteer? I have volunteered since 2016.
What inspired you to volunteer with our organization? I grew up with great mentors around me and I looked up to them. Having them around encouraged me to stay focused and follow in their footsteps. Because they gave so much to me, I wanted to pass their wisdom and intelligence to someone and give back to the community that I lived in.
What has been your favorite thing about volunteering so far? It’s reflecting and giving back. Mentoring has forced me to look back on obstacles I faced growing up. The times I had the right, good people around me, I was motivated to overcome any obstacle I encountered. My reflections on my experience with mentors helps me as I mentor my mentee to navigate the world and overcome any obstacle he might face. I also enjoy going hiking and learning from Terrell and seeing him grow to become the young man he is today.
What would you say to someone who is thinking about becoming volunteering? I would say do it. Do not overthink it. Just Do It!!!
