2019 has been an exciting year for our agency! BBBSM is 60 years old and was awarded the Mid-Large Agency of the Year award at the 2019 BBBSA National Conference. In June, Big Brothers Big Sisters nationally updated its mission and vision statements for the organization to focus more on the new direction that we took last October with the national rebrand.
Mission Statement:
Create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth.
Vision Statement:
All youth achieve their full potential.
The new statements are focused on the needs of today’s youth and how we can defend, ignite and empower their potential. While we have not changed what we do, we have changed the way we talk about it. Big Brothers Big Sisters continues to provide quality support for the volunteers and Littles in our program. BBBS matches volunteers and youth based on shared interests to ensure the match is solid from the beginning. Once matched, our Match Support Specialists help matches navigate their mentoring relationship. The support they give is a vital part of the program that helps strengthen the bonds between Bigs, Littles and their families.
With an update in how we talk about our goals, volunteers are able to see that they can ignite potential in Littles and help them reach their biggest possible futures. There are so many ways you can ignite the potential in our youth in addition to mentoring.
Promote & Recruit
Get the word out about BBBS. Use your social media, tell your friends or ask your employer if you can place a poster in your breakroom or company newsletter. If your workplace has the capability, become a Match Discount Partner and offer a small discount for matches to use when they are on outings. YOU are important in our community and there are many ways you can leverage your impact to defend and ignite the potential of youth. If you have an idea for how to help us grow, let us know by emailing Partnership Coordinator, Marianna Foral at mforal@bbbsomaha.org.
